NY Jets: Sheldon Richardson maturing well since incidents

When it comes to defensive end Sheldon Richardson and his off-the-field incidents, he’s been maturing well and doing his best to focus on making a major impact upon his return to the NY Jets this weekend.

It’s no secret that when it comes to Sheldon Richardson, many question if his head is in professional football for all the right reasons. When it comes to being a star defensive end in the city that never sleeps, it can sometimes be hard to handle with all the distractions and temptations that come with the territory.

Hopefully Richardson learned a whole lot from the mistakes he made with getting hit with a four-game suspension to start the season due to smoking marijuana and with speed racing at 143 miles per hour with a minor in the vehicle in addition to having a loaded gun in the car.

Since then, he’s been trying to just own up to his mistakes, face the eventual consequences and prepare to help the Jets as they start the second quarter of the season. He’s still shown up to meetings and is anxious to get back into the swing of things from a football point of view.

Thanks to the Media Relations Department of the Jets, here is what head coach Todd Bowles had to say about Richardson and his return to the team this weekend against the Washington Redskins in Week 6 action:

On if there is any doubt that Richardson will play…

He’s going to play. He’s definitely going to play. Yes, he’s going to play.

On how Richardson has approached the four weeks he was suspended…

He’s been quiet, he’s been humble. He works out and he goes to meetings. That’s about all he can do. I’m sure he was chomping at the bit to get back in and watching the other guys play. Hopefully, he’ll be hungry.

On if he’s looking to see if Richardson has matured from the situation…

I think he learned a lot. Something like that really humbles you I’m sure. He’s kept his head clean and been out of trouble, as far as I know. He’s been here all the time. So, you learn from that and you grow in your 20’s and you do something like that, he’ll look back in life and learn a lesson from it. So, hopefully we can all move on from it.

Overall, the Jets are welcoming Richardson back with opens arms as he will no doubt solidity their defense tremendously as everyone tries to move on from his suspension and focus on the rest of the season that lies ahead. Hopefully he’ll stay out of trouble and prove his worth all over again as he’s pretty much trying to earn back trust, respect and once again become part of the big picture for his future on the Jets.
