When it comes to the New York Jets, the team is working hard to bounce back from their recent turmoils and preseason loss of last week into a much better direction. With the Atlanta Falcons on the horizon, the Jets are preparing to get their first victory of the preseason and continue to work hard heading into the regular season.

Head coach Todd Bowles recently spoke to the media as our friends at the Media Relations Department of the Jets sent us a complete transcript of his comments on team progression, injuries and the latest involving the quarterback situation of the team. Here it is in its entirety:

On Muhammad Wilkerson not practicing today and if he will play in Friday’s preseason game…

He’s coming along. I think, if he doesn’t go tomorrow he probably won’t play.

On if he expects Wilkerson to practice tomorrow…

Don’t know, we will see how it goes.

On Chris Owusu

He’s doing some light jogging and everything. So, his head is clearing up but, he’s still a ways away.

On how Ryan Fitzpatrick has looked…

He looks fine. He’s getting used to the timing and everything else. We’ve added some different things for him, so he’s been doing well.

On what he added for Fitzpatrick…

Plays.

On if the plays are better suited to Fitzpatrick’s skill set…

No, we’re just adding more to our offense, just an install.

On how far along he is with the install of the offense…

About 65 (percent).

On if anything has changed because of the differences in Fitzpatrick and Geno Smith’s styles…

No, it doesn’t.

On if he has talked to Smith…

Yes, I talked to him yesterday. I talked to him today. He’s fine. He’ll be back in meetings, he won’t be doing anything, but he’ll be back.

On if Smith was coming in today to meet with trainers…

He was at the team meeting (today).

On if later this week is the time table for Smith to be at all the meetings…

Yes, providing he’s feeling better, he’ll be at all the meetings.

On if there is a time table when Smith will start doing physical activity…

No time soon. He’s got a good another week and a half, two weeks maybe.

On how Willie Colon has looked in camp…

He brings a lot of toughness. So far he looks good, his knees have been holding up. He’s been upbeat. He’s one of the most talkative guys in camp. He makes every day festive and he plays like that. He’s one of the older guys, but he’s got one of the younger spirits. He’s been having a good camp.

On how Smith has been feeling…

According to Geno he’s always fine, but you have to take precaution with that. Anybody that is trying to get back on the field is always fine, but you can’t listen to that.

On where Marcus Williams stands…

He’s in the mix. There’s still a long way to go. Marcus is very intelligent, he does some great things. He plays zone as well as man. He’s an inside and an outside guy. Very heady for a second year guy, so he’s done some good things. I like everything Marcus is doing.

On how Smith is dealing with not being the team’s starting quarterback due to the injury…

We haven’t communicated about that. Obviously the injury prevents you from that. Different people deal with it in different ways.

On if Smith can talk much because of the surgery…

He spoke to me. We didn’t have a two hour conversation or anything, but he was able to open his mouth and everything.

On the incident…

We’re done talking about it. The incident happened. We made statements when we made statements. That’s not going to define who we are or what we do going forward, so we’ve moved on.

On if he has decided the starter at guard…

Not yet. He’s (Willie Colon) been playing better than everybody else so far, so he gets the lion’s share of the reps.

On progress of Bryce Petty and Jake Heaps…

They’re coming along. It’s a lot. They’re getting a little more time than they normally get because of the injury, but they’re coming along. They can’t get better by standing on the sidelines, so we’re trying to give them as much as they can and hope as the preseason goes, these guys get better every week.

On Trevor Reilly

He’s got a great toughness. He’s explosive off the ball. I’d like to see him use his hands a little more technically and kind of get off blocks instead of shouldering himself off the blocks. I’d like to see that coming this week.

On Dexter McDougle

He’s healthy and he’s running around, he’s still got a lot of football to learn. He’s a young guy. Every day is a different day for him. A lot of technique stuff, a lot of reading formations, a lot of reading splits and those types of things that he’s got to learn. But he’s coming along pretty well.

On McDougle’s performance against Detroit…

You get beat, you get beat. No use having an excuse for touchdowns, you’ve got to play football too.

On Fitzpatrick’s progress…

I mean, he’s a pro. Unlike a young guy, he’s been in the league and he’s played so he’s started a bunch of games. He’s played and come off the bench a lot. With him, he’s handling a lot and it helps your reps, it helps your stamina. You have to get used to those things, and Ryan is in very good shape, so he’s taking it all in stride. Just getting used to the receivers and understanding where to throw the ball at with the receivers he’s throwing to now is probably a little different, but it’s coming along.

On Lorenzo Mauldin…

He’s got a high motor. You like the kid’s motor. He’s got some good pass rush moves, but he’s got to learn the overall game. He’s pretty young that way.

On Quincy Enunwa taking first team reps…

It’s a sign of taking the place of some injured tight ends and getting some reps in there, so he’s doing a little mixture of both.

On preparations for the second preseason game…

The starters will play a little bit more. We’ll give them a little more plays in a row and start to see things a little bit more as you start to try shape your team. You try to mold and see plays of things and get communication going with the guys you’ll see this weekend.

On Tommy Bohanon

Tommy’s been doing a good job. I’m pleased with Tommy. He’s been a very pleasant surprise.

On Brandon Marshall’s focus…

He’s a professional. I don’t have to keep him focused. Brandon comes to work every day he’s one of the first one’s in the building. We don’t have a problem there.
