Should fans be excited for the New York Jets?

Have the New York Jets revitalized a diehard fanbase that won’t rest until they return back to the spotlight? General manager Mike Maccagnan and head coach Todd Bowles came to NYC and in a very short period of time have won over one of the most skeptical fan bases’ in the NFL. Fans who were ready to throw themselves under the bus last year suddenly see a ray of light at the end of the tunnel.

Long suffering Jet fans are excited again, and the first snap of summer camp hasn’t even happened yet! Training camp promises to further feed the fan base’s excitement with this roster, as deep competition is at almost every position.

Even the media has joined in on the game with the criticism of the organization kind of articles circulating fewer and fewer this year. At least for now, its a pleasant change as the media is taking a “wait before we criticize approach”.

That in itself is enough to get fans excited! Believe it or not, the Jets have even received some praise from the local columnists, something that seldom happens these days.

A quick scan of the comment sections around the internet and it becomes apparent that somehow they have taken on a slightly different demeanor. The ugly battles of last year’s split fan base seem to have disappeared into thin air. The name calling and personal attacks have slowed and it is almost safe to enter some of the forums again.

Sure there are differences as the skeptics remain, but this is a team in the city that never sleeps as nobody in there right mind would think the masses could ever agree on any one thing! What is evident, is fans have begun a love affair with Maccagnan. He’s being heralded as the “Jet Savior” in many fans circles, while he’s seen as a “scouting genius” in others.

What is also crystal clear is that Jet fans are super excited to watch Bowles implement his defensive scheme. There are even those in the fan base that have suggested that Bowles’ defensive genius might rival the “other guy” that had the job last year! Expectations are high for Bowles as the fan base is excited to watch him meet them this season.

Even offensive coordinator Chan Gailey has seemingly been reinvented once again into some kind of “offensive guru.” The seasoned NFL veteran comes to the Jets with the promise that he will be playing his style of the “spread offense.” Maccagnan has supplied the offensive weapons to work with and the fan base is eagerly awaiting the Jets scoring touchdowns on a regular basis this year!

I know it is only the start of June, but its been a breath of fresh air this spring around the general consensus of the team.  It has been great, fans are getting along, discussions have been civil and almost everyone agrees, this year’s Jet team will be far better than last year. This is something that fans should absolutely get excited about since the possibilities are endless come next season.

There is a buzz surrounding this football team, it’s very early into the preliminaries, yet fans seem to be scurrying for the next bit of news. Competition has become a keyword among Jet fans, and they are eager to see it get underway. Every year there is a growing anticipation for training camp but it has been a while since the Jet fan base was this excited for it to begin.

Of course we’ll have to wait and see how it all plays out but for now, I plan to enjoy every minute of the excitement and civility between fans. How about you? Are you excited? Tell us about it in the comments section below. Let’s Talk Jet Football!!
