Tonight we are going to take a look at two more mock drafts. As we have talked about often, as the draft gets closer and closer, more and more mock drafts will be seen from all over the map. The experts write them, and re-write them, trying to get a handle on which players will be selected in Chicago, and with which picks.

We also know that the Jets strategy is changing. Free agency has dictated change in the Jets draft strategy. They have put a lot of effort into the secondary, and have made a major move to upgrade wide receivers. It brings into focus the Jets need for an edge pass rusher. A dominant player off of the edge could return the Jets defense to elite status.

Both drafts we are going to take a look at have the Jets choosing edge pass rushers.

The first draft is from Daniel Jeremiah. Late last week, Jeremiah revealed the fourth version of his mock draft. He mocked Shane Ray from Missouri to the Jets. Here are his thoughts.

The Jets aggressively addressed the secondary in free agency, but there is still a need for a dynamic edge-rushing presence.

Take a look at his full mock here.

Monday, Bucky Brooks, from NFL.com like Jeremiah, released the third version of his mock draft. He has Clemson OLB Vic Beasley going to the Jets.

Todd Bowles’ defensive background could lead him to take the most explosive pass rusher in the draft to fortify Gang Green on the edges. Beasley could emerge as a dominant sack artist in Bowles’ ultra-aggressive system.

I think you guys know by now, how I feel here. I do like both of these drafts. Many times on these pages, I have begged the Jets to take an edge pass rusher with this pick. You need to find a great player when you are choosing that high, you can’t miss. These pass rushers look like the real deal. With Brandon Marshall in the fold, the dire need for Kevin White or Amari Cooper is gone. Edge pass rusher is a great pick here.

Vic Beasley is the superior player. His pass rush skills are more polished that Shane Ray’s. I will not be upset if they took Ray, but the Jets will be better served with Beasley.

What do you think?
