Deflate Gate: NFL Botches Up Another Situation

facebooktwitterreddit

First we had the Ray Rice situation. Then we had the Adrian Peterson situation as well. Both situations, handled poorly by the NFL and commissioner Goodell. Now we have, “Deflate Gate”. We have a situation, yet again, where a team has cheated, and once again, it’s the New England Patriots. The resounding opinion around NFL fans is that Robert Kraft gets whatever he wants, and has Roger Goodell in his pocket. The decision that came from the NFL yesterday does nothing to dissuade that opinion.

For anyone that missed it, the NFL’s response to the allegations and findings is to appoint Ted Wells. Wells, if you recall, is the same person that was brought on to investigate the Jonathan Martin situation. Now, he joins the NFL to help with “Deflate Gate”.

An outside investigator? For this? You must be kidding me.

Earlier this week, the league found that the Patriots used 11 footballs that were two pounds below the required weight of 12.5 PSI. They were tested prior to the game, checked at halftime, and backup balls were substituted in for ones that were altered. The article in this paragraph confirmed that the Patriots had 24 footballs ready to go.

The league said the investigation would be completed within 2 to 3 days. What happened Roger? What changed? Tell us. The NFL fan is not stupid, they have the right to know. Let’s go. The league was supposedly “angry” and “distraught”, after they had those findings in hand. They are so “distraught”, this is the answer? A long-winded investigation by someone from the outside? Why?

Look at a very interesting portion of the NFL statement from yesterday:

“The investigation is being led jointly by NFL Executive Vice President Jeff Pash and Ted Wells of the law firm of Paul Weiss. Mr. Wells and his firm bring additional expertise and a valuable independent perspective. The investigation began promptly on Sunday night. Over the past several days, nearly 40 interviews have been conducted, including of Patriots personnel, game officials, and third parties with relevant information and expertise. We have obtained and are continuing to obtain additional information, including video and other electronic information and physical evidence. We have retained Renaissance Associates, an investigatory firm with sophisticated forensic expertise to assist in reviewing electronic and video information.

Forensic expertise? For what? 11 footballs were tampered with! They were approved before the football game, and they were tampered with! They all had the same problem, they all weighed the same. We don’t need forensics to understand this? Am I missing something? Roger, did they get deflated by magic? No, they were deflated by CONVICTED CHEATERS!

Then we have the press conferences. Bill Belichick had no idea about what happened to the footballs. The Hall of Fame coach, had no idea, huh? The coach from the “model organization”, knew nothing? RIGHT! And, he threw his beloved quarterback under the bus? Nice work. Then we hear from prince Tom. He “never” altered the footballs. NOBODY SAID YOU DID! You had the equipment guy do it. Tom believes the equipment staff that says they didn’t do it. OK, then HOW DID 11 BALLS GET DEFLATED! These people insult our intelligence, and NFL fans should be outraged. I know I am.

It is clear that these two people are lying. There is question, they say, that the league has about how the balls were deflated. HOW? The balls were deflated by the Patriots, at the request of the quarterback. He handles the football every play. This is NOT ROCKET SCIENCE!

But, you know how this crack investigation works? THEY DON’T INTERVIEW TOM BRADY! How is that not the most insulting thing you have ever heard? Put someone on a train, sit Brady and Belichick in separate rooms and say, “11 balls were deflated! Why? Out with it!” And get an answer.

But, Roger Goodell would rather sit on it, pray it goes away, than cause trouble for his prized team. By the way, good luck with that. I am sure that 5,000 media members will just drop the issue because you don’t want to talk about it Roger. Stop insulting football fans intelligence. Pete Rozelle is turning over in his grave right now.

And can we stop it with the Robert Kraft statement please? Look at this very ironic quote from Pope Kraft:

Competitive balance and the integrity of the game are the foundation of what makes ourleague so special and I have the utmost respect for those principles.

Really? Your team has been CHEATING FOR YEARS! The Panthers swore that someone was taping their Super Bowl practice when they faced the Patriots! So did the Rams! We know they have been caught in the past, and now we have this. All of a sudden the Patriots have an interest in competitive balance and integrity? Um, NO THEY DON’T! THEY NEVER DID!

But what does this ridiculous commissioner do? Nothing, that’s what he does. It’s better to make a few extra bucks than do what is right for the NFL. It’s sad.

Pete (Rozelle), if you can hear me now, accept my apology on behalf of all football fans. This is not the NFL you left us with. If only you could come back to clean up this mess.

Roger Goodell certainly won’t do it. It’s pathetic. Deflate gate is pathetic. The investigation is pathetic. every last bit of it. Best of luck in Phoenix, Roger. You will need it.
