Let’s get right to the report card grades from last night’s pathetic performance by the Jets against the Bills. Remember when we would have our teachers send our report cards home to be signed by our parents? Well, the way this report card is about to look, I would be punished. Here we go.

QUARTERBACK: F Michael Vick played the worst game he has played as a member of the Jets, including the game that he admitted not being prepared for. He threw one interception, but could have thrown at least three more. He was missing open receivers, and played the game as if he didn’t care what happened. Geno Smith came in the game and was marginally effective, but the Jets had more than lost the game by that point.

Not a good day for New York Jets signal callers.

RUNNING BACKS: D It’s hard to give this group a failing grade, simply because the Jets didn’t run the ball enough. They ran the ball 19 times, compared to over 30 passes. But, the running backs did nothing to write home about themselves. Chris Johnson lead the way with 40 yards on seven carries, and Chris Ivory carried the ball seven times for 31 yards. The Jets just didn’t do very much on the ground last night, even though it is typically a strength.

WIDE RECEIVERS AND TIGHT ENDS: F Despite the fact that Jeremy Kerley topped the Jets with 66 yards on five catches, and Eric Decker added 63 yards on four catches, the Jets wide receivers were not good. Nobody played a great game. Percy Harvin caught one pass for two yards, and Jace Amaro was invisible. The only other player with a catch from this group was Jeff Cumberland with one catch for five yards. It wasn’t a banner night for anyone, and this group was no exception.

OFFENSIVE LINE: F If I could give the Jets offensive line a “Q”, I would. They were just awful. Michael Vick was sacked seven times, and running for his life many times in addition. The running game had moments, but never got its act together. Mario Williams and friends had their way with them to the tune of seven sacks. This is the worst I have seen the Jets offensive line play in many years.

DEFENSIVE LINE: F Last night was as bad as this group has looked for the Jets in a long time. The group that was supposed to terrorize opposing quarterbacks couldn’t find its way to Kyle Orton with two hands and a flashlight. They couldn’t get off of their blocks, and just flat out were awful.

LINEBACKERS: D The linebackers only performed marginally better. They too could not get to the quarterback, other than the half sack posted by Quinton Coples, they brought nothing to the table. Scott Chandler went free down the middle at will.

SECONDARY: D When the opposing quarterback posts a passer rating of over 115, it’s tough to give them a decent grade. But, they get better than an “F” because they were better than last time. The Jets did not screw up anything to allow one of those wide receivers to beat them deep. But, Kyle Ortoan did pick them apart, so the “D” stands.

SPECIAL TEAMS: F This one would have been rated “R” for ridiculous. The Jets shanked a punt that turned into a touchdown, had a punt blocked for a TD, and Percy Harvin ran back kickoffs from almost out of the endzone. He didn’t get to the twenty very often. Can we have Mike Westhoff back..
