The weather was beautiful today in Cortland, NY. However, not all of the results from practice this afternoon were so wonderful. Let’s talk about it.

INJURY BUG: The injury bug has finally taken to our beloved New York Jets. For anyone that hadn’t heard by now, Dexter McDougle has been lost for the season due to a torn ACL, and Dee Milliner suffered a high ankle sprain that will sideline him for a few weeks. We have all seen that high ankle sprain situation, however, and how it seems to linger all season on guys. Patterson, Walls, ..etc. are going to have to be ready to step up, and do it big time.

JACE AMARO: Jace looked better and better as I watched him practice. His routes are getting stronger, and he is making catches with his hands. If I recall correctly I did see one drop on a tough catch, but all in all, Amaro will be just fine.

STEPHEN HILL: Stephen, on the other hand? Well, not so much. It’s interesting to see that the quarterbacks don’t look for him very often. Today, when they did, he dropped a pass right in his hands, with NO DEFENSE. Stephen just doesn’t get it, he can’t stop cradling every pass into his body, rather than using his hands. Now seeing more of it live, he needs to wise up fast or his days are numbered.

As an aside, following the Saturday practice, as Stephen walked off the field, a fan screamed to him for an autograph. He actually looked up and said he had the wrong gloves on. Maybe that is the problem all of this time?

OFFENSE WINS THE DAY: It was very promising to watch the offense lead the way today. There were a couple of communication problems with the wide receivers and Geno sporadically, but that is something they can work out. For the most part, the receivers were making plays, the backs looked good, and the line was coming together.

Our own Susan Lamb will be reporting from camp tomorrow.
