Tomorrow night it is on. Jets football is back. It is also the first time in 2014 that we get to see the guys at the all important position of quarterback compete with each other. Geno Smith, Michael Vick, Matt Simms, and Tajh Boyd all take center stage as the Jets take on the Indianapolis Colts.
Rex spoke yesterday about his quarterbacks, and how they push each other on both the field and in the Jets’ quarterback room:
Well, I think that if you have Mike Vick come in here, you better be on top of your game, and obviously Geno is. Whether (Smith) needed Mike Vick to be here or not, I’m not sure. But probably not because I know Geno wants it in the worst way to be a great quarterback and the preparation that he did in the offseason, the things he did, but certainly with Mike Vick in there, that does push him. But they’re really good together. That whole group of quarterbacks, they back each other up, but they push each other, they challenge each other. That’s a great thing for us.
Rex feels the way I do, as he will be looking for Geno’s command of the offense tomorrow night:
I think so. And I want to see some production too, and I think we’ll see it. But I know he’ll have the command out of him, but, let’s have some production, I think we will. And again, I’m excited about it just like, shoot, no different than our fans, I know our fans are going to be excited about it. Let’s see where this team is at. Let’s see how (Eric) Decker fits in, let’s see how this defense looks. So, I’m excited to watch us play against somebody else.
Having four guys certainly carries on the mantra of competition. Even if the odds are good that one guy is going to be the starter.
