This is a few days in the past, but it was so annoying I had to talk about it.
We all know the guy just pictured just above. Mike Tannenbaum, the man with early success, but leaves a legacy of bad contracts and Tim Tebow. Now, he is an agent, and also works as an analyst for the NFL Network.
Well, Tannenbaum was on the network the other day, during the “Inside Training Camp” program talking about the Johnny Manziel situation. Specifically, he was discussing all of the attention being given to a guy coming in as the backup quarterback.
To paraphrase, Tannenbaum said that you have to monitor the attention Manziel gets. He said that you have to limit is access to the media because he is the backup quarterback.
Umm…..hmmm…..seriously? Did Mike Tannenbaum actually SAY that?
Wouldn’t this be the same person that welcomed Tim Tebow on a PRIVATE JET?!?!? Didn’t Tannenbaum have a backup quarterback that hosted a press conference where the whole world of media showed up? Didn’t Tebow have a press conference every week? What backup quarterback has that?
It’s easy to make the comments when behind a microphone. Now that Mike Tannenbaum is on television, he is finding it very easy to tell everyone else what to do, although he never had the sense to do it that way himself. The term for a person like that is “hypocrite”.
If Tannenbaum had placed these “limits” that he spoke of on his player, he might still be employed by the New York Jets, rather than the media. Mike Tannenbaum didn’t have the sense to do it right at the time, so saying it now is pretty hollow.
You might think he is just speaking from learning what he did wrong. No way. At the time, if you recall, Tannenbaum was quoted as saying that the Jets “…knew what they were getting themselves into…”. Meaning? They knew Tebow would be in the media spotlight and didn’t care.
Tannenbaum is advising on what he couldn’t do himself. Mike Tannenbaum, you are a hypocrite, please go away. Thanks.
