Ken O'Brien engaged in a 21 gun battle with Dan Marino in September of 1986

80's Flashback: New York Jets vs. Miami Dolphins

If you have been watching the NFL network at all, you know that they are in the midst of their “decades month”. Each week, they go back and look at the draft, and the great teams and players. This week, the network is going through the decade of the eighties.

In keeping with the 80’s theme, I have the idea. I have the highlight package that could still make you go crazy, being a Jets fan. It’s about as exciting as it gets.

The day was September 21, 1986. The Dolphins headed into town to take on the Jets. Dan Marino was in his second season, as was Jets’ quarterback Ken O’Brien. Freeman McNeil was unavailable for the New YOrk Jets, causing them to rely more on the passing game.

Both teams did that and more. Dan Marino and Ken O’Brien went toe to toe in touchdown battle. If you aren’t old enough to have seen this the first time, then you will be amazed to see an actually high powered Jets’ offense.

Highlights of the game are below.

The chemistry between Ken O’Brien and Wesley Walker expanded two fold in this game. I don’t want to give it away for someone has never seen this before, but it’s pretty wild.

Enjoy and have a good night.
