Minicamp Day 2: Geno Smith Excels, Chris Ivory Rolls Ankle, Not Serious

A couple of brief notes coming out of the second day of minicamp for our New York Jets.

The first is regarding Geno Smith. Everybody loves his progression! Whether it’s Marty Mornhinweg, David Lee, or whomever else, they can’t stop glowing about how much better Geno Smith looks than he did last year. The comments ranged from how much better in shape he is, the fact that he isn’t counting steps, that he is faster, and has lost body fat. It was said he is “very sure of himself with each play”.

This is music to any Jets’ fans ears. Geno Smith is the starter going into camp, and to see him working hard to keep his position could not be better.

The other bit of news is that Chris Ivory was injured again. According to reports, he rolled an ankle. Per coach Ryan it wasn’t serious, but they may hold him out of tomorrow’s practice as a precaution.

Not a big deal as we still have time before training camp, it is just worth noting because Ivory has a career full of injuries.

The only reason this makes me somewhat excited is that I don’t particularly remember coaches ever saying Mark Sanchez looked significantly better in minicamps. There always seemed to be errant plays, he looked ok but not great, etc. I could be wrong though and imagining this. Anyway, its gotta be a positive sign that Geno will take most of the snaps with the first team in training camp. I hope he keeps it together mentally and outperforms Vick to really start to lead this team.
