Stop the Obvious Statements About the Jets QB Competition

Hi everyone! I’m not “back”, but chiming in when I can as I have the strength, so here we go.

I start coming back to the internet and I read the Tajh Boyd comments.  then we have the Mornhinweg piece, including these comments from Marty:

“There is competition,” Mornhinweg said, via NJ.com. “Now, it may not quite be like the competition we had last year where everything was 50-50. We’re trying to continue the progression with Geno, and then have Mike ready to go. It’s just that simple, and Mike knows the exact expectations and roles that he has, and Geno knows the exact expectations.”

We hear from the coaching staff talking about the competition mantra, whenever the QB situation comes up. It’s fine, I am not saying the news is inaccurate, I am giving you a different point tonight.

Enough, already!

Of course, there is going to be a competition. We know that. Frankly, we would have to be deaf and blind not to be aware of that. Scratch that. Despite those issues you might still be aware there is a competition.

And the idea that Geno Smith starts in the lead? Fine! He was the starter last season and he is making strides. He should go in ahead of the battle. Not that he can’t be beaten out, I am saying that he should have the lead going into the battle.

All we are doing is stating the obvious. Stop. I need a nap now, but I will be back.

Guarantee Vick is the starter by week 4 after geno throws 5 ints in 3 games and continues his inevitable sucking. And this is a good thing for the jets

Gumby, you can’t guarantee anything. If you could, you’d guarantee yourself into a fortune by betting correctly on every game. There’s a reason why we play the games. Geno was inconsistent enough last season that there are almost equal reasons for optimism or pessimism regarding his future prospects. He ended the season with 4 strong games, had 4 or 5 come from behind wins, and managed to win eight games in his rookie season, while playing with easily the worst receivers in the league. On the other hand, before those last 4 games he produced some epic stinkers, had a terrible TD/INT ratio, and sometimes seemed completely lost. So which Geno are we getting? If it’s the Geno of the last 4 games, Vick will never see the field unless Geno gets hurt. If it’s the Geno of the first Miami game, then Vick will be the starter (until he inevitably gets hurt).

Dan, thank you for putting down Gumby’s ridiculous comments. Guess what people? Its a team game. A lot of INTs that Geno had last year were balls that could have been grabbed by our receivers who stood their like dummies and didn’t fight for the ball. Sure he had some stinkers and bad games, but not every INT was Geno’s fault. And for the last time HE WAS A ROOKIE. Rookie QBs coming out of the gate as all-stars is the exception, not the norm. Look at Matthew Stafford and think about what his numbers would look like without Megatron. And he’s not a rookie. Sometimes coaches come up with crappy game plans. Thats not Genos fault either. In my opinion, Geno had a better year than he is given credit for. Everyone points to the Tampa Bay game and such, but guess what? If Geno hadn’t taken off there, and taken a sack (which Sanchez would have undoubtedly done) the Jets lose that game. He kind of stutter stepped towards the sideline too as he heard footsteps. I think he was trying to draw that penalty. That shows awareness. But yeah, there are plenty of negatives as well. Do you really think Michael Vick has no negatives? Do you really think Vick can actually make it through a 16 game schedule? He is a backup QB now, he will come in if Geno is struggling. But unless Geno looks horrid in camp and preseason he will start week 1.
