The draft is now behind us, and the season of watching college highlights of draft prospects has come to an end. Now it is that time where you watch the highlights of the players that your team drafted and dream of what they might do on an NFL field. In all the watching of college film one thing sticks out to me every time, the numerous different uniforms that each college team has at their disposal. From Oregon’s many audacious chrome helmet variations, to Western Virginia’s bright yellow standouts, uniforms in NCAA uniforms have such a fast turnaround that schools, by the end of a season, have up to 6 or 7 different outfits.
Before the 2012 NFL season Nike had replaced Reebok as the NFL’s uniform and jersey manufacturer, and with this came the end of the old Titans of New York alternates uni’s. Personally I was a fan of the Titans gear, some don’t like the colors, but I think the white Titan tops are some of my favorite jerseys period. Nike has slowly rolled out alternates for the various NFL teams from the battle red the Houston Texans have to the jailed bumblebee outfits of the Pittsburgh Steelers.
The NFL stated that alternates would be released per teams discretion, so the question now is are the Jets, and their fanbase, ready for the next generation of alternate uniforms? Should we bring the Titans of New York back or go in a different direction? There is one alternative I would vote for, during the period before Nike released the new looks for all 32 NFL teams there was a set of concepts going around that a lot of people thought represented what Nike would unveil. The one they had for the Jets was, in my opinion, really bad-ass looking. Here is a picture below.
I think the inclusion of black with the thin white detail lines really gives this uniform a unique look. I am also a big fan of the black helmet with the slightly older Jets logo, which is my favorite of all the Jets logos and I would not mind seeing it make a comeback. Now I know it was the logo for the Jets during a very hard time, but nevertheless it is a great piece of graphic design.
