Zach Thompson: New York Jets UDFA Profile

Let’s continue along with the second season here of scouting. It’s the round that comes up immediately following the NFL draft, as the teams scramble to sign players that they didn’t have enough room to draft, known as UDFAs. Tonight we spotlight Zach Thompson, DE from Wake Forest.

Here are his stats from Wake Forest:

Thompson measured in at 6’4″, 271 pounds at his Pro Day. He ran the 40 yard dash in 4.78 seconds.

Here is some video from the 2012 season on Zach Thompson:

It is always fun to watch a player with a nose for the football, and Zach Thompson has just that. He is around the ball so often it is like he is stalking it, trying to photobomb its selfies. He’s a strong guy and an adept tackler. He is explosive when getting to the passer as well.

Zach Thompson could use a bit more size. Weighing in at 270s-280s makes him a little small for Defensive end, and more of a standup outside rusher at linebacker. Some girth would do him well.

But Zach will certainly be one to watch when they hit the football field.
