New York Jets' 1st Round Pick: Reactions From Fans On Twitter

The pick is in! The New York Jets have selected Calvin Pryor, S, Louisville. The pick was a bit surprising considering the players on the board but Pryor is an excellent safety and a great pairing with Antonio Allen. Here are some initial reactions from the Twitterverse:

And then there are reactions from the other side:

The reaction has been mostly positive for the very hard-hitting safety out of Louisville. I liken him to Laron Landry but with much more range and better ball skills. With Pryor and Allen the Jets are set at safety for years to come. This is a deep draft for wide receivers and there are still some good corners available. I would expect the Jets to be able to move around tomorrow, whether to move up in the 2nd round or even add a second 2nd round pick. Pryor is a good start for John Idzik. I personally would have chosen Dennard because he is a lockdown corner in my opinion but Pryor is just fine.

Pryor’s selection returns a respectability to the Jet defense that they haven’t had in years! Now its time to complete the defensive rebuild! Outside Linebacker and Corner in the second and third! I know everyone wants the WR’s, but I feel they’ll finish what they started last year!

First of all, what happened to Jet nation? All of a sudden we are positive on something? Second of all, it was lame and completely for show that Idzik let the time run down to 30 seconds, he knew who they were picking, in my opinion it was a statement about his “glacial speed” on making choices. Third, how can you say this kid has better ball skills than LaRon Landry, an accomplished veteran pro athlete? This kid hasn’t even played a senior year in college. I hope it pans out but another Defensive back in the first round is certainly not what I was hoping for, as the one negative Tweeter said above, we could have filled the safety position in free agency. Just like the CB position. The draft is a game of risk and reward, this one is risky in my opinion. Playing defensive back in the NFL is a whole different ballgame than college. That INT they were showing in his highlight reel was an incomplete pass in the NFL. I’m glad we have 11 picks. I’m not glad the Bills have Sammy Watkins and our schedule is going to make this season a nightmare most likely.
