Tonight, we continue our scouting of players that want to continue the dream of NFL stardom. Demarcus Lawrence is our guy, so let’s get right to it.
Defense & Fumbles
He measured in at 6’3″ and 251 pounds. He ran the 40 yard dash at the NFL Combine n 4.83. He finished out his career in college with 2 forced fumbles and 20 sacks. Here are some highlights:
PROS: The first thing I notice about the player is his soft hands. He makes the catch out of the backfield, and does not seem to drop. He runs hard, for a big guy. Lawrence hits the holes, and he is gone. Same goes for his defensive play. Lawrence is even threat to the passing game and the running game. He gets to the quarterback and can make the quick hit and put them down.
CONS: First, as always, the negatives from the NFL profile:
Could stand to get stronger and play with more pop and power in his hands. Lacks ideal bulk to play with his hand in the dirt. Gets knocked around when he exposes his frame. Doesnt control tight ends. Is weak at the point of attack and gets wiped out by double teams. Can be overaggressive and lose contain or fly by tackles. Can do a better job protecting his legs. Lacks experience playing in reverse. Character and stability need to be looked into.
I personally didn’t notice the lack of pop and proper. If he doesn’t keep his contain while on defense. The guy is a project, but one that could work. He could rank a mid to late round selection.
