John Idzik. As the days go by, he becomes almost a polarizing figure in the Jets’ fan base. If you read the timeline for this website on Twitter, you can see the fans are split. Is John Idzik being patient? Or is he missing out on chances to fix the team?
How is John Idzik doing so far? I want to hear what you think. Before we put it to a poll, let’s remind ourselves about some of the major goings on this off-season so far, in the form of John Idzik’s pros and cons:
PROS: For what it’s worth, there have been some good moves made. The Jets did sign Eric Decker, the top WR in free agency. Not only did they sign him, but they didn’t overpay. The same could be said about the top free agent quarterback, Michael Vick. Whether you like him or not, taking him purely on-field, he has the most ability of any of the free agents at the position.
John has also done great work at bringing back players from the current roster. The biggest example was giving the franchise tag to, and then signing a long term deal with Nick Folk. He meant a lot in 2013, and Idzik rewarded him. He has brought back Leger Douzable and Nick Bellore as well. So, not all the moves have been loud, but there have been moves made.
CONS:The biggest issue has been the secondary. Antonio Cromartie has been allowed to walk, and nobody has been signed to replace him, and the Jets need a veteran. Whether it has been Alterraun Verner, Vontae Davis, Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie, or whoever else, nobody has signed up to replace Cro.
Nor have the Jets brought in any help at safety, which they could still use. The back-end of the Jets’ defense is worse than it was when the season ended.
