Senior NFL columnist Pete Prisco has brought his latest mock draft. Who do the Jets take?

Pete Prisco Mock Draft: The New York Jets Select………

It’s time once again to take a look at one of the Mock Drafts from across the NFL landscape.

You know the deal by now. Everyone has a version of their mock draft. We have our weekly one, that we updated this morning, in case you missed it. Every other expert across the board has their prediction as to what is going to happen when May 8th rolls around.

It’s all speculation, but it’s fun.

I went looking for a draft that made a choice for the New York Jets that was a little bit off of the beaten path. I found one, written by senior NFL columnist Pete Prisco. Here is his choice for the Jets:

DARQUEZE DENNARD, CB MICHIGAN STATE:

Take a look what they have now. There isn’t much.

Well, it wouldn’t be the biggest of surprises if this were the choice, would it? The Jets clearly have a need at the position. OK, they have a gaping hole at the position. It wouldn’t be a shock if the Jets attempted to fill that hole in the draft. Dennard is qualified to fill it.

However, when you take a look at who is left in this particular mock draft, it becomes a bit more far-fetched.  Take a look, when the Jets come up at 18, Eric Ebron, Marqise Lee, Odell Beckham Jr. and Brandin Cooks are all still available.  It would be just as easy to see them taking one of these offensive weapons as well.

This could happen, I just don’t see it.

Denard by many scouting reports I’ve read is not a “plug in starter” however. He lacks ideal size, and doesn’t possess elite speed for a corner. Rex will like his physical nature, he’s good in man coverage, but a few pounds might increase his strength. He’s never really been tested, having played in the Big Ten, he didn’t face most of the top receivers in college. His lack of size and speed is a concern, the transition to NFL might be difficult. Will he develop into a solid corner in the pros? He surely can, but the Jets need a starter now….not down the line. The prospect of starting Milliner, Denard, and Wilson on opening day doesn’t thrill me. I just guess we’ll have to wait and see…hope the wire will produce a veteran to make it through 2014 while whoever we draft gets to develop!

Idzik is going to do something at corner. I don’t think it will be with the Jets’ #1 pick.
