Antonio Cromartie Inks 1 Year Deal With Arizona Cardinals

ESPN NFL Insider Adam Schefter is reporting via his verified Twitter account that Antonio Cromartie and the Arizona Cardinals have agreed to a one year deal. The monetary specifics on the deal are not out yet but one thing is for sure, this signing is not one which sets well with many Jets fans, myself included. One would have to believe that Rex Ryan is about to explode with the current state of corner’s on the NY Jets roster.

Antonio Cromartie had an off year last year due to a nagging hip injury. HE definitely was not 100% but toughed it out the entire season. He was a cap casualty at the beginning of free agency but most Jets fans, including me, believed that he brought back just at a reduced rate. After seeing every single quality cornerback that was a free agent get locked up by other teams, the Cromartie resigning was one which was a fallback plan in my opinion. Granted last year Cromartie was ranked 103 out of 110 corners in the league, you know that was an anomaly and that it was something physically wrong but you had that safety net of “we can always resign cro for less money.” Now that safety net is none existent. I would not be surprised if Idzik takes a CB in one of the first 3 rounds of the draft. We cannot go into the season with Kyle Wilson & Dee Milliner at corner. Milliner will be fine eventually but Wilson is better suited to cover slot receivers. We need to reinforce the position ASAP. Thankfully, opening day isn’t until September.

Well, Cro is off the market and Jet fans are screaming!! He surely wasn’t worth the contract he was carrying, the Jets made the right move cutting him. As far as resigning him, I don’t believe that was ever the plan. The Jet staff was all over his injury last year, they knew what they were looking at. Granted in the offseason, he had a doctor say it didn’t require surgery, but the Jets doctors and trainers must have had some serious concerns, otherwise they would have resigned him at a reduced rate. Obviously they had the opportunity to do so. Then the guy signs with Arizona and immediately tweets his disgust with the organization for being “disloyal”! Hopefully the Jets will be able to work out a trade or a veteran CB, or pick one up off the wire during camp. I don’t cherish the idea of using a first round pick for another CB, and really don’t want to see them start a rookie opposite a still yet unproven Milliner, They signed Walls, but he’s shown little to impress anyone. Wilson has the slot guy, and beyond that there isn’t much to speak of. The secondary was a huge problem last year with both Safety and CB needing an upgrade. It’ll be interesting how Idzik handles the situation, because you know Rex isn’t a happy camper! LOL
