The Mike Tannenbaum Way: A Reminder

As the days have gone by, the frustration has gone up within the Jets’ passionate fan base. People have been waiting for another big strike, expecting the Jets to spend all of this money they have, and patchwork a football team together.

The frustration is so apparent, that “fire John Idzik” has become at least a semi-popular thing to say. Fans think he is acting too slowly, and are tired of deliberate actions.

Do people want Mike Tannenbaum back?

At this time, I wanted to take you all on a trip down memory lane, through the magic of the internet. For fans that think they might prefer the Tannenbaum way, let’s look back at some of the players that Mike brought in, either via trade or free agency….

Let’s not forget some of his draft moves either:

So for everyone that is tired of John Idzik. take at those names for a moment. Would rather go back to those methods of signing contracts. Anyone still want to go back there?

At the same time you could have added Revis, Mo Wilkerson, Laron Landry, Antonio Cromartie, Kris Jenkins, Braylon Edwards and Santonio Holmes when they were productive.

I think Idzik should never have decided to bring Rex back if he didn’t plan on at least building the defense with him. This guy may not be good, we don’t have a track record. He was involved with the Seahawks, but certainly was not the GM making the final decisions. I understand if you want to play the long game, but in the years the Jets made it to the AFC Championship, there were a good mix of veteran difference makers and young guys. Even Jason Taylor contributed way more than his numbers suggest, because the sacks and tackles for losses he did have were in HUGE spots. LaDanian was a big part of that success too. Just signing a bunch of rookies is kind of a lame strategy in my opinion. I like that he hasn’t overpaid anyone, but then again, there have been talks that agents aren’t liking dealing with him and the obvious point that he doesn’t work with Rex at all. Its too early to know but I am increasingly worried. The majority of Tannenbaums dumb decisions were made later in his tenure with the Jets, and he was definitely scapegoated. Everyone at the combine thought Vernon Gholston was a stud, you win some, you lose some. But if Idzik fields a mediocre team this year that doesn’t seem to have any direction, in a year where you have money to spend, what does that say??

I think we just need to let him see his plan through before we take him to task.

It says he’s not spending all that money at once! The first few days of FA were ridiculous! Big names and even bigger inflated contracts to go along with them!! I think he might have forced us to use a #1 or #2 pick on a CB however. Starting a rookie opposite Milliner to open the season doesn’t thrill me. but there is still plenty of time to try and fix that situation. I’m willing to give Idzik the time to build the team, I just thought he’d be a bit more aggressive in the CB, S, market. The Jets need help back there!

I agree those contracts were ridiculous. Especially for the top CBs but I thought that might be where he went for somebody. Reports are saying they have no interest re-signing Cro for less money so I don’t know who else they will get. Cro had a bad hip last year, we don’t know how well that has rehabbed, but he did have a great year in 2012 when Revis first left. Watch him go to the Bills or Dolphins or something.

        • Paul Newbold

He signed a one year deal with Arizona.

Yep found that out shortly after I wrote this. Great!
