In some exciting news coming out of Florham Park, the New York Jets are having star corner-back Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie fly in for a visit tonight. Having released Antonio Cromartie (Rodgers-Cromartie’s cousin) as a cap casualty, the Jets need a new starting caliber corner-back to start opposite Dee Milliner. Antonio Cromartie under performed last season while battling injury, and his cap number was just too big to swallow for the Jets this season especially considering the fact that he will be 30 in April. The Jets are likely not opposed to see the corner-back come back at a lower rate, but considering he is currently visiting Arizona and working out a contract make that seem unlikely.
Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie by contrast is a little younger at age 27 and, taking into account Cromarties play last season, would be an upgrade at the position. Considering the deal Idzik made with Decker, I would not be surprised to see Rodgers-Dromartie signed to a multiple year deal at a reasonable rate. Considering that Rodgers-Cromartie has some good years in front of him this would be a smart move, and will further reinforce the theory that Idzik wants to build a team that will be together for a while.
