Last night, the New York Jets signed Eric Decker as the first step to giving Geno Smith a legitimate receiving core. That’s not all that they’re doing. The Jets are still going after James Jones, and per Manish Mehta, the Jets had a private meeting with University of Southern California wide receiver Marqise Lee.
The Jets have the eighteenth pick in the draft this year and seem to be seriously considering Lee for their pick. Lee can help the Jets in multiple different aspects on the field. The first one is obvious, the passing game. However he can also help them in the special teams department as well, returning kicks and punts. This is another area that the Jets have had some issues with the past few years.
However, there is something to be wary of when deciding whether or not to officially draft him, if he’s even available. Last year, Lee had recurring leg issues. While, hopefully it won’t be a problem, it is something to think about.
I like considering Lee for the pick. He can provide a nice spark at the wide receiver position. He can also make an impact on special teams, and be a catalyst in that aspect that the Jets have been missing.
