Rumor: Jets Have Reached Out To Revis

After Darrelle Revis was released this afternoon by the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, the New York Jets contacted him, per Manish Mehta. Could this mean that Revis will return to the Jets? Not necessarily.

The last time Revis was with the Jets, it ended badly with Revis being traded. This came after two different hold outs by Revis. Revis has said that he would love to play for Rex Ryan again, but does he want to play for him so much that he will take a discount? Past experience would say no.

Another thing to think of is this: do the Jets legitimately want him to come back, or is this simply a courtesy contact? We’ve all seen what Revis can do. The Jets need a corner. Is he their target?

Last year with the Buccaneers, Revis had two interceptions and also forced two fumbles. During his six-year tenure with the Jets, he had 19 interceptions and forced only one fumble.

I’m intrigued by this. I didn’t expect even a courtesy call to Revis. Now, will this materialize into something more?  That remains to be seen, as it could just be a courtesy call and not mean anything. Jets and New England Patriots are the teams I’ve heard the most of as possible landing spots for Revis. I’d want Revis back, but I feel he will want too much for John Idzik to pursue.
