Eric Decker to Visit the New York Jets Today

Per multiple reports by the various media outlets, Eric Decker will be visiting the New York Jets facility today. Last year on Denver’s high octane offense, Decker posted 1,288 yards on 87 receptions. While Decker may not be the elite number one receiver New York Jets fans have been salivating over since the departure of Keyshawn Johnson; but he will undoubtedly be an immediate upgrade to what was what we can all call without hesitation, the worst wide receiving corps in the NFL.

The first day of free agency brought us many moves which left us in flat out shock. The reaction from Jets fans on twitter with how Jets general manager John Idzik has approached free agency this season, is honestly laughable. Even NY’s WFAN morning show radio host Craig Carton displayed the kind of panic this morning that many Jets fans can identify with. I think everyone is over reacting. If there is one thing we know about Idzik in his first year as GM with the Jets is that he is very calculated. If he didn’t rush into any moves in the first 18 hours of free agency it is OK!

This Decker move, if successful, could show to be the first of many upgrades Idzik will be making on the offensive side of the ball. It seems Idzik gets “it.” It looks like this Decker visit could be the beginning of move to surround second year QB Geno Smith with weapons and actual NFL caliber receiver.  Decker has all the physical to succeed without Peyton Manning throwing him the ball. Proof? In 2011 Eric Decker caught  44 passes for 612 yards and 8 touchdowns with Tim Tebow as the starting QB for a portion of that season.

As long as it’s around 7M per with easy outs for the Jets then I’m fine with it. Let’s understand he’s not a number one receiver, not even close. Before free agency the “experts” were saying 11M per for him. It only
takes one team to over spend but it seems the entire NFL knows what his ceiling is. Having said that he would definitely be an upgrade over what we presently have and he has been productive in college and the NFL with a limited skill set somewhat like Chrebet was for us.

Agreed Frank. Decker at the right price is a deal. No way should they pay him as a #1 receiver! Idzik is taking the value approach! He’s passed on those ridiculous contracts handed out yesterday in free agency! There is no way half those contracts were deserving!

Forget a wide receiver!! The Jets offensive line has to be the major concern!! We lost Howard to the Raiders and passed on all the top OT in FA!! The Jets line just took a step up the priority list! We now have troubles with both OT positions!! Unless you think Winters will step up this season! Without an offensive line, the quarterback (no matter who) won’t be able to hit ANY receivers!! I thought they may be able to keep Howard, and was hoping for another OT via free agency. The fact that they didn’t do either spells big troubles for this team!
