Per Adam Schefter, the New England Patriots have signed Darrelle Revis. He has been signed to a one-year, $12 million contract. News came out earlier that the New York Jets had spoken with Revis, although Brian Costello reported that Revis had contacted the Jets, not the other way around.
The trade the Jets made with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers looks a little less like a win after this news comes out. Jets received a pick, which they used on Sheldon Richardson, as well as a fourth round pick for this year’s draft. That pick could’ve been a third round pick had the Buccaneers kept him past 4pm.
For all the Jets fans who wanted Revis back, it is only a one-year deal. However, based on how quick this happened, the Jets want nothing to do with Revis anymore. He contacted them to see if they were interested, and based on the fact he signed with the Patriots, and did so less than five hours after getting released tells me the Jets told him they weren’t interested.
I can’t say this doesn’t hurt. The Patriots were the only team that it would bother me if Revis went to, and he went there. Part of the reasoning has to be to get to know Rex Ryan’s system. However, they also need corner help with Aqib Talib now with the Broncos. Who do the Jets go after now to help their secondary?
