Breaking: Jets Sign Breno Giacomini

After Austin Howard signed with the Oakland Raiders, the New York Jets needed to fill a hole. They have now done so. The Jets have signed right tackle Breno Giacomini.

Giacomini was drafted in the fifth round of the 2008 draft by the Green Bay Packers. He was acquired off the Packers practice squad by the Seattle Seahawks in 2010 but was released shortly after. He re-signed with the Seahawks for the 2011 season. During that season he played in 15 games, starting 8.

Giacomini remained with the Seahawks in 2012 and 2013 as well. He started all 16 games in 2012 and started 9 games in 2013. He also has a Super Bowl ring from the Seahawks winning the Super Bowl back in February.

This feels like a rebound signing by the Jets. Shortly after learning that Darrelle Revis had signed with the New England Patriots, this news came out. It’s almost if they were waiting until the news came out to announce the signing to appease the fan base. That said, I like this signing. I think it definitely help the Jets fill the right tackle hole left vacated when Austin Howard went to the Raiders. I think it will be interesting to see how well he protects Geno Smith.
