BREAKING: Jets Release Antonio Cromartie

One of the inevitable moves have finally been made.

Reported by our good buddy Jake Steinberg from the Jets Blog, the Jets have given Antonio Cromartie his release. Antonio all but confirmed the move with this tweet:

Let’s be honest. We all knew that this move was coming. Cro had a large cap number this year, due a $5 million roster bonus this week, and the Jets are trying to salvage as much money as possible on the cap. The Jets save $9.5 million against the cap by letting him go.

He could still be resigned by the team, but the tone of that tweet from Antonio says that either he doesn’t expect to be brought back, or that he doesn’t want to be brought back.

In four seasons with the New York Jets, Antonio Cromartie recorded 13 interceptions and 51 passes defended. He has, however, been susceptible to the big play, so it was an up and down time in New York for Cromartie.

If he is not back, he will be missed.
