The Jets took care of a little bit of housekeeping tonight, taking care of their own in the defensive backfield.
The team announced that they have resigned Ellis Lankster and Darrin Walls to contracts.
Both of these guys were backup cornerbacks, behind Dee Milliner, Antonio Cromartie and Kyle Wilson. Lankster posted 18 tackles last season, 16 of them solo. Darrin Walls posted 21 tackles, 18 of them solo.
Earlier in the day, the Jets were awarded Johnny Patrick off of waivers, released by the San Diego Chargers. Patrick played two seasons with the New Orleans Saints prior to being claimed by the Chargers last season. With San Diego, Patrick posted 38 tackles, 1.5 sacks, a forced fumble and an interception.
The Jets had a rough time in the secondary last season. OK, that could be putting it mildly, as they had their moments of playing terribly in 2013. Signing a cornerback with experience like Johnny Patrick will do a lot to add some experience and depth to this football team.
More moves are sure to come.
