NFL Spin Zone Mock Draft: The New York Jets Select.......

‘Tis the season of mock drafts, so on we go with another one. This time, we take a look at one from inside the Fansided family.

Joe Soriano is one of the top young writers in the Fansided network, in my opinion. He may be a Patriots fan, but he takes an even-handed, fair look at the entire league and its teams. While he was part of the Patriots’ site, Musketfire.com, he and I had many a spirited discussion regarding our teams, always fair.

Well, now, he writes for one of our larger NFL websites, NFL Spin Zone, and he does a great job there as well.  He is a terrific follow on Twitter, check him out at @SorianoJoe.

Joe has put out his most recent mock draft over at NFL Spin Zone.  Here is who he has at number 18 for our New York Jets:

Eric Ebron, TE, UNC

The New York Jets simply need playmakers, and they need them badly irrelevant of whether or not they are at the WR position or TE. While the Jets could use a true No. 1 receiver more than a playmaking TE, I’ve decided to change my pick from Marqise Lee to Eric Ebron here. The logic being that there are about 12 wide receivers in this class who project as legitimate starters, whereas there are just three impact TEs. Ebron is the best of those three as a pass-catcher, and that makes up for his woeful blocking. The UNC product is as explosive as they come, and he is a pure “joker”. Although he is raw, he’s too talented to pass up on here. The Jets could use a true No. 1 wideout in the draft, but it’s probably wiser for them to sign someone in free agency and then draft a guy like Jordan Matthews later on.

Check out his mock in full by clicking here.

As far as his pick, we can’t go wrong there.  As Joe put it, the Jets need playmakers, and Eric Ebron is a playmaker.  There are a lot more wide receivers available than impact tight ends.  If Ebron makes it to 18, there is a good chance that he doesn’t make it any lower than 18.

We will find out soon enough.
