Scouting the NFL Draft: Jared Abbrederis

While most of us are still digging out from the major snowstorm of yesterday, let’s look ahead at the NFL draft.

The Jets need weapons on offense. We have heard chapter and verse on the big weapons from early in the draft like Marqise Lee, Mike Evans, and Eric Ebron. But, what about players after the first round? Who are some of the players that could help AFTER the first round?

Take a look at Jared Abbrederis from the University of Wisconsin

Here are his stats from his college days:

Receiving & Rushing

Receiving Rushing Scrimmage
Year School Conf Class Pos G Rec Yds Avg TD Att Yds Avg TD Plays Yds Avg TD
*2010 Wisconsin Big Ten SR WR 13 20 289 14.5 3 3 27 9.0 0 23 316 13.7 3

Career Wisconsin 202 3140 15.5 23 28 291 10.4 2 230 3431 14.9 25

He measures in at 6’2″, 190 pounds.

Here is some footage on this player:

PROS: First things first, Jared has terrific hands. He uses them to catch the football like a pro, he doesn’t let the ball into his body like Stephen Hill does. He also runs excellent routes, it’s visible on the tape that he gets consistent separation and can turn cornerbacks the wrong way. He also can go get the ball at its highest point.

CONS: The biggest question with any young receiver coming out of school is whether he can get off of press coverage. Nobody plays it in school, so the kids unfortunately don’t get the experience. Learning to play against the press coverage will be key for Jared Abbrederis to succeed.

Other than that, this kid clearly has talent. Abbrederis would be an interesting 2nd/3rd round choice this May.

    Any speed?

I haven’t seen what his times are, at least not yet. Will be watching this guy at the combine to see what he comes up with….thanks for reading.

I wouldn’t touch him until the 3rd round as of now. I like either Evans or Lee in the 1st. The ravens and giants are a better fit or Evans as are the rams. The only team that would take Lee would be the lions over Evans. So I’ll bet that Evans will be gone at 18.

Do you like the the tight ends, Ebron or Amaro?

  • Paul Newbold

He’s a stretch for a second rounder I think. I’m becoming more convinced the Jets will bypass the big name receivers in the first, and may even wait to the third round to start stockpiling receivers. They own 12 picks in a draft seriously deep in WR’s and will likely chase a veteran receiver in free agency. I know the consensus is the Jets will go offense early and often, but I think they might surprise some folks.

Paul,if the Jets pulled some surprises, it won’t ever shock me. You have some thoughts on what those surprises might be?
