Tony Sparano Jr. Promoted, Eric Smith Added to Coaching Staff

He’s back! Safety Eric Smith is back in Florham Park. This time, he is beginning his coaching career with the Green and White.

Remember this guy? Remember watching him take a really bad angle on Tim Tebow as he scored a game winning touchdown against our Jets?

Well, he’s baaaaaccckk.

Eric Smith is beginning his post-playing career in the same place that he played his football playing career, in New York with the Jets. He recorded six interceptions and 3.5 sacks during his time with the Jets, before being released last February.

And then there is another name from our past that we were hoping to forget, Tony Sparano. Well, that name lingers on. Don’t worry, it’s his son, Tony Sparano Jr.

Jr did come over in 2012, just like his father. Sparano Jr. was a seasonal intern while his father was serving as offensive coordinator. Now, he has been promoted to the role of offensive assistant, as Rex Ryan’s coaching staff comes more and more into focus.

Aside from the promotion of Sparano and the hiring of Smith, Ryan’s staff has undergone a few other changes this offseason. Thomas McGaughey replaced Ben Kotwica as our special teams coordinator and Bobby April III replaced Brian VanGorder as our linebackers coach.

If they can coach, we will forget all about their not so perfect pasts with the Jets.
