Super Bowl 48: Initial Thoughts

Here are some initial thoughts on the Seahawks’ thrashing of the Denver Broncos at Met Life stadium, completing the “Road to MetLife Stadium”:

  • Nobody saw this coming.  Clearly, defense does still win championships, despite the fact this is a passing league.  The defense just whipped the Broncos all over the field.
  • This does nothing to Peyton Manning‘s legacy: People that say this game hurts the legacy that Peyton Manning has left needs to stop.  Even with the blow out, you can count on one hand the quarterbacks that have had better careers and/or done more for this game than Peyton Manning.
  • The offensive line made the difference: Remember the preview where I talked about getting to Peyton Manning?  Well, the Seahawks did get to Peyton Manning, and the Broncos did not get to Russell Wilson.
  • Seattle is an opportunistic defense: One of the other keys to the game was to turn Denver over.  Seattle did it three times.  They had the Denver offense basically running around like headless chickens.

Congratulations to the Seattle Seahawks.
