As we move ahead in the off-season, it’s time to start looking at the free agent market.
Geno Smith needs weapons. Santonio Holmes is most likely gone. Jeff Cumberland and/or Kellen Winslow are going to be gone, replaced by new, unproven talent. We don’t know what to expect out of Stephen Hill, and we know what we have in the other players. Jeremy Kerley and David Nelson can play, but they aren’t number one receivers.
Take a look at the free agent list, and the name Eric Decker pops out. It should, because he is a terrific wide receiver that would walk into the building as the number one receiver. Here is some tape to watch:
Eric is 6’3″, 214 pounds, and is only 26 years old. He is a young man with a lot of football left in him, and a lot of good football. His size is a perfect build for a wide receiver.
Over the last two years, he has posted 172 receptions and 24 touchdowns. Some might say that Peyton Manning deserves the credit for that, for bringing his talent out. Yes, he deserves some, as that is what Peyton does. But for anyone who thinks Decker isn’t any good, he did post 44 catches and eight touchdowns in 2011. That was with Kyle Orton and a certain other quarterback who remains nameless on this writer’s lips.
Just watch the tape, you learn all that you need to. Eric runs great routes, has great hands, and deceptive speed. He is the total package. If he could be a Jet tomorrow I think it would be time to weep with joy.
