Well, it looks like at least one of the decisions regarding Jets’ assistants has been taken out of the hands of Rex Ryan and John Idzik.

Special teams’ coach Ben Kotwica has been hired to join the staff of Jay Gruden and the Washington Redskins in the same role. This move is one that many Jets’ fans will be OK with, as many aspects of the Jets’ special teams have taken steps back under Kotwica’s charge.

The 2013 season was the first for Ben as the special teams coordinator. The previous two season, Ben served as an assistant to special teams’ guru Mike Westhoff, as well as a quality control coach for the defense. Many will remember the good natured fun made of Ben during the rookie talent show, seen on the Jets’ version of “Hard Knocks”.

There is no word at this point as to who will replace Ben. As I said earlier, not a major disappointment here, as the quality did take a step down from Mike Westhoff’s reign as the coordinator.
