Well, he wasn’t the PFW Defensive Rookie of the Year like he had hoped, as that went to Kiko Alonso of the Bills. However, Sheldon Richardson did receive acknowledgement for his performance.

The roster for the Pro Football Writers All Rookie Team came out today, and as expected, Sheldon Richardson was on it. It was well deserved, as he posted 78 tackles, 3.5 sacks and a forced fumble in his rookie season. Here is the entire defense, for anyone that is interested:

Defense

DL – Ziggy Ansah, Detroit Lions; Star Lotulelei, Carolina Panthers; Sheldon Richardson, New York Jets; Kawann Short, Carolina Panthers

LB – Kiko Alonso, Buffalo Bills; Sio Moore, Oakland Raiders; Alec Ogletree, St. Louis Rams

CB – Tyrann Mathieu, Arizona Cardinals; Desmond Trufant, Atlanta Falcons

S – Eric Reid, San Francisco 49ers; Kenny Vaccaro, New Orleans Saints

Many thought, Sheldon included, that he would be defensive rookie of the year. Unfortunately that didn’t happen, but to make the team is quite the honor.

It was a terrific year for Sheldon Richardson, with more to come.
