Well the decision may have been kept away from the media as long as possible, but Woody Johnson was quite clear in resolve that Rex Ryan would remain as the Jets’ Head Coach in 2014. Granted there was no talk of the contract extension, or possible lack thereof, but he was clear that Rex was coming back.

He actually shared an email with the season ticket holders as to why he made the decision that they made.  Take a look:

So, it is obvious that Woody Johnson sees what the players see. Rex has a passion for these players, and a passion for coaching this football team. He wants to be here, and we haven’t had that very often with Jets’ coaches. Remember when Herm promised he would be here, and made a back room deal to join the Chiefs? That will never happen with Rex.

And he gets a lot out of these guys. If Rex weren’t here, who was getting 8 wins out of this talent-lacking roster on offense. I am not sure that Vince Lombardi could have gotten more out of this group.

Even if you don’t thing Rex is the best coach out there, he is the RIGHT coach for this team. You have to take into account the chemistry with the team. A similar example to me is in relationships. You know how you two people who get together, and they might not be the best looking couple? But, when you view them together you can tell they are RIGHT for each other.

That is Rex Ryan and the New York Jets. There may be better head coaches out there, but there isn’t a head coach that is more RIGHT for the Jets than Rex Ryan.
