Adam Schefter: Sources Leaning Towards Rex Ryan's Return as Jets' Head Coach

Could the groundswell be turning in Rex Ryan’s favor? If you ask ESPN NFL Insider Adam Schefter, the answer to that question is yes. Take a look at his tweet from this afternoon:

Interesting, huh?

It certainly would make a lot of Jets’ fans happy, as most of the polls around the internet show the fan base solidly in favor of coach Ryan coming back.

And why not? Many could make the argument that his coaching job in 2013 was his best so far. Many looked at this Jets’ roster and didn’t think the team would win any more than three to four games. This team might finish 8-8, and a lot of credit must be given to Rex Ryan.

Are his sources right? We will find out soon enough, as “Black Monday” is rapidly approaching. If he stays, I am sure we will find out the “details” that Schefter is referring to as well.

Of course he should be kept on. He has the best record of ANY previous Jets coach who has 5 or more years with the club. Also he was instrumental in the development of the defense which is the NFL’s top defense according to Football Outsiders’ defensive efficiency ratings.

Deserves 1 more year to see what the team can do with that D and some real offense

They will extend him. Though ESPN “sources” are rather questionable. The lame duck status for 2014 is rather unlikely in my opinion. In the end Idzik will decide his fate, Woody forced him on Idzik last season, but I think it’ll be firmly in Idzik’s hands this season.
