This could possibly be the final week of Rex Ryan’s tenure as the Jets’ head coach, we are aware. There are rumors that surfaced that the team has already started looking for his replacement. According to Jay Glazer, Rex addressed his status at the Saturday team meeting by rallying the team to fight for his job. We will find out soon enough what is going to happen.
However, there are rumors that coach Ryan is disgruntled based on his tenuous job situation. Rex address that head on when he talked to the media yesterday:
I’m not disgruntled about anything. I’m excited about the opportunity in front of us which is playing the Dolphins. Obviously, they had a great game against us last time, (it was) a very disappointing loss for us at home. We’re excited about getting the opportunity to play them again and see how we stack up right now against them. Obviously, the last time we played them they were much better than we were. It’s an opportunity for us, that’s why I’m not disgruntled at all. I’m excited about the opportunity right in front of me.
He also addressed the reports on whether or not he heard that the Jets were seeking replacements:
Again guys, I’m not going there. Like I said, my focus is just on this Miami thing. We certainly had a good game against Cleveland. We have Miami left and that’s what I’m comfortable talking about. Any speculation about this or that, the only thing I can say is that we know what is in front of us and that’s a Miami Dolphins team that is a very talented team.
This is exactly where Rex’s focus should be. His job is to lead this team, period. Not to speculate about what his job status may or may not be. Whatever is going to happen, is going to happen. It’s nothing that he should get crazy over, especially not publicly. He may be thinking about it, but he’s not going to talk about it with the beat reporters.
