Muhammad Wilkerson wins New York Jets MVP

As reported by Manish Mehta this morning on twitter, defensive end Muhammad Wilkerson wins the team MVP award. This should come as little surprise to anyone who has watched the Jets this season as Wilkerson has been a near unstoppable force on a stout defensive line. He leads the Jets in sacks with 10.5 and even has an interception to his name, which is rare for defensive linemen. Beyond the stats the naked eye shows his consistent pressure on opposing quarterbacks, his athleticism in pursuing ball carriers, and most importantly the passion with which he plays the game of football. He will be an anchor going forward and voting is till open for the pro-bowl which he has a real shot at making.

Other team awards given out today include ‘Most Inspirational’ given to LB Demario Davis, ‘The Ed Block Courage Award” won by Isaiah Trufant, ‘The Good Guy’ award won by kicker Nick Folk and ‘Rookie that acts most like a pro’ award won by fullback Tommy Bohanon. Demario Davis does deserve credit for his play this season, and it will not come in the form of a pro bowl nod or anything like that, so I am glad to see him get recognized. As for Nick Folk I am glad to hear he is a nice guy because he has been as reliable a kicker as any this season.
