With the Jets now officially out of the playoff race, the shift focuses to the embattled coach, Rex Ryan. What is his job status? Has John Idzik already made up his mind, or are the Jets playing the next two weeks to save his job? At least that will keep the end of the season interesting.
Rex, however, is never lacking for confidence. Whether it is a facade, or exactly how he feels, Rex still believes in himself as much as ever. This week, he told the media that he believes he is the guy for this job. He was asked why, and this is what he had to say:
Look, I’m a competent guy, even though I know that will be questioned a zillion times forward and backward, whatever, that’s fine. But I know I’m a good football coach. I believe in this team. I believe in this organization and I’m determined to bring a winner to this team, there’s no question about it. I know and I believe that I’m the right guy for it. Now again, I’m not the guy making that decision. If I was, it’d be easy and you guys wouldn’t be asking me the questions anymore. But that’s not the case. So again, all I know is what I can do is get this team ready to go and play at the very best of our abilities. That’s exactly what I plan on doing.
You can say a lot about Rex Ryan, but one thing you can never say about him is that he is negative. Is there a more positive guy around? We will see soon enough if that positive guy will continue to be the Jets’ coach. “Black Monday” is one week from Monday.
