According to an article posted by ESPN New York’s writer Matt Ehalt yesterday afternoon (article here), Antonio Cromartie has suffered a concussion. Cromartie was diagnosed with this concussion after stating he had a headache at the conclusion of Sunday’s 37-27 victory against the Oakland Raiders at MetLife Stadium. On Rex Ryan’s weekly radio spot on ESPN New York 98.7 FM, he stated that he thought Cromartie was recovering as he felt better on Monday than he did when leaving the stadium on Sunday. The concussion situation isn’t a pleasant one because due to the leagues concussion protocol, we won’t know what is going on with Cromartie until very late in the week. If Cromartie can’t play this week we will shorthanded on an already thin, under performing secondary.
As crazy as this is going to sound, Kyle Wilson should be able to hop in without issue and cover for Cromartie if need be. The problem is Kyle Wilson is Kyle Wilson and Antonio Cromartie is Antonio Cromartie. Cro is flat out the better player. Ideally, Dee Milliner would have panned in his rookie year this year. Instead he has been benched a bunch of times and while he has at times been in a good position to make a play on a ball etc., he has underachieved tremendously. Darrin Walls is just as bad in my opinion. I remember the game earlier this year where they took Dee Milliner out and put Walls in only to have Walls get burned on a deep route his first play in at corner. Hopefully Rex can compensate for a Cromartie-less secondary with schemes etc. We will have to wait to see what develops throughout the week. One thing is for sure, if Cromartie passes his concussion tests, he will be on the field giving it all he has.
