It was a sad day earlier this week for the Idzik family.
The Jets have released information, per the Idzik family, that John Joseph Idzik, John Idzik’s Dad, has passed away at the age of 85. He died of natural causes at his home, with his family by his side.
As coach Rex Ryan has referenced, Idzik’s Dad was a coach, like Ryan’s Dad. He coached in the NFL from 1966-1981, including stints with the Dolphins, the Baltimore Colts, the Jets, and the Eagles. He was part of the Colts’ staff that won the Super Bowl in 1971. He was the offensive coordinator with the Jets in the late 1970’s.
He also coached at the University of Detroit and Tulane prior to beginning his NFL coaching career.
Idzik, the youngest of nine children, is survived by his wife Joyce, three children — Dr. Cynthia Lynn Idzik-Starr, John Arthur Idzik and Joyce Leigh Harms — five grandchildren and sister Laura Novasack.
Condolences to general manager Idzik and the rest of his family in their time of mourning.
