As Reported by Brian Costello on Twitter ,in his press conference today Rex Ryan applauded the offense saying that “[they] had our best offensive practice today”. Of note Jeremy Kerley was back at practice today, while Kellen Winslow was out per schedule and Matt Simms did not see any first team reps, solidifying Geno as the starter against the Raiders. After this past weeks performance against the Dolphins this is hard to believe, and might even be taken as boisterous posturing trying to make the fans think the problems on offense will be fixed by next Sunday. In the past Rex Ryan refers to most practices as going well, sometimes he admits things could have gone better or been sharper, but for the most part he never speaks ill of practice sessions.
This is a tactic by the fifth year head coach of the New York Jets to keep things in house as much as possible, and contain the medias ability to pick the team apart from the outside. Unfortunately, there is a lack of cohesion between some of the units on this years roster, and it is difficult to tell if and when the actual problem can be resolved. Perhaps after the loss to the Dolphins Rex gave an emotional speech to the team, an ability he is widely lauded for, and now the issue is at least partially resolved. Unfortunately we won’t know until the final tick of the clock this weekend against the Oakland Raiders. For now Jets fans should remain very cautiously optimistic about the statements made in today’s press conference.
