With all of the experiences brought to the team by its newest safety, it’s really not a huge surprise that Ed Reed played as much as he did last week against the Bills. We have said it many more times before that, Rex is comfortable when he was watching “his guys” and Ed Reed, after all of these years, is one of Rex’s guys.
Rex talked about that on Friday with the NY media:
Not really. I had a lot of time to get fresh, so I was prepared for whatever, but Rex (Ryan), he trusts me and after Thursday, Friday and meetings on Saturday, I think he made that decision himself. I didn’t honestly know until right before the snap, honestly. He (Coach Ryan) was like, “Ed, get out there.” I just ran out and went from there. Dawan (Landry) and the guys helped me out a good bit as far as communication.
It’s not hard to be surprised by this, in a good way. We all watched Ed Reed terrorize EVERYBODY in the US. Although they are looking good, the team is going to use a lot of that no-huddle, to give an already tired secondary another chance to get beaten. Having a veteran like Ed Reed on the football field, wearing the same colors.
