Santonio Holmes’ Hamstring Injury Was Major

Robert Deutsch-USA TODAY Sports

Santonio Holmes has been out with a hamstring injury since the New York Jets’ week four match up against the Tennessee Titans. Until now, we have only heard about it as a hamstring injury and didn’t know the extent. Rex Ryan said today that the injury was major and that it was the worst the team has seen all year.

This has come out while the Jets, Holmes included, are preparing to face the Buffalo Bills for their week eleven match up on Sunday. Holmes hadn’t taken part in practice in any form until two weeks ago when he took part in individual drills during the week leading up to the New Orleans Saints game. With the bye week last week aiding him, Ryan expects Holmes to be playing this Sunday. The question will be how much will Holmes be able to do, and how much, if at all, is that hamstring bothering him.

I had a feeling, based on the dancing around the issue by the Jets as well as the length of time it took Holmes to return, that this was more serious than just a simple hamstring issue. However, until today I couldn’t be sure. The Jets need to be careful not to overuse Holmes Sunday and make him aggravate the injury.
