New York Jets and the Rex Ryan Era: After the Bye 2011

Over the last couple of days, we have been taking a look back at the Rex Ryan era. As we sit here in the midst of the bye week, we take a look back at how Rex’s teams have performed after the bye week so far. We first took a look back at the year 2009.  Yesterday, we looked at the second part of the 2010 season.

Today, we take a look at Rex’s third season, 2011.  It was a season that started out well, but ended in a way that most of us wanted to forget about five minutes after it ended.

The Jets had their bye in week eight of the 2011 season.  Heading into the bye, the Jets were in a decent position, 4-3 overall, but 1-1 in the AFC East.  Here is how the rest of the season turned out:

It started out well, with the Jets winning four out of their first six games after the break, running their record to 8-5.  Then, the bottom fell out.

The disaster in Philadelphia happened, then Victor Cruz ruined Christmas, and the on field fight problems in Miami.  Three straight losses, and the season ended with a 8-8 record.

For anyone not keeping track, that’s a 4-5 record after the bye week.  Definitely a finish that was worth forgetting about, and doing so quickly.
