Alright folks, it’s week four for the New York Jets and they close out the first quarter of the season against the Tennessee Titans at LP Field in Nashville.
Kick off is at 4:05 p.m. so if you are heading to the music city, here’s a look at what the weather will be courtesy of the National Weather Service:
“A 40 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms. Partly sunny, with a high near 79. West southwest wind around 5 mph. Sunday Night A chance of showers. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 62. Calm wind. Chance of precipitation is 40%.”
So, who does the weather favor?
A lot of the time, when the weather threat is not so great, the conditions would favor the home team due to familiarity of the track.
Having a low amount of wind would definitely would favor opportunities to sling the ball around. What we learned against the Bills is that Geno Smith has got a really good arm. But there were some throws that he would like to have back. Smith has to do a better job in minimizing the mistakes. Last week, the two interceptions weren’t costly, BUT, according to NFL.com, the Titans are the seventh ranked defense overall. They will make the Jets pay if he’s not careful.
On the other side of the coin, Titans’ quarterback Jake Locker has done well throwing the ball (51 of 87, 572 yards, 3 touchdowns, no INT). However, he’s been sacked seven times. The Jets defense has been playing fantastic in the first three weeks of the season and they are ranked third in the league as of now according to NFL.com. The starting right guard for the Titans is a rookie in Chance Warmack and the rest of the offensive line has a combined 29 years of experience headlined by the former Jet Rob Turner. If the defense use Warmack as the spot to start to apply the pressure, you can get to Locker.
Besides Turner, former running back Shonn Greene, and defensive end Ropati Pitoitua will be facing their old mates. Of the other two, I would be more concerned about Pitoitua who has eight tackles so far. He was always a solid defender.
This is a very winnable game for Gang Green and they have a shot to close out the first quarter of the season 3-1.
