Geno Smith On the Upcoming Game Against Buffalo

Onward and upward, as they say. With New England in the rearview mirror, for now, the Road to MetLife Stadium continues from MetLife Stadium on Sunday as the Jets take on the Buffalo Bills. The Jets need a big performance out of their offense, as going 0-2 in the division is not a good position to be in.

It will be the battle of the rookie quarterbacks as Geno Smith of the Jets takes on EJ Manuel of the Buffalo Bills. Geno talked yesterday about what he has seen from Buffalo on film:

They have a great front seven. Those guys are active. I think the one game I saw, Mario Williams had about four, five sacks, so that was impressive. They have a few guys down in the secondary, but for the most part those guys have played well. They made it tough on quarterbacks. They play a ton of press coverage and you can tell they can run. I mean those guys are active. The back end is smart. So, they’re going to present a challenge for us.

He knows he has to get the ball out quickly, especially against this opponent:

Oh yeah, of course. It’s always important to get the ball out and to get it out on time. You never want to sit back there and pat it and babysit the ball. So, that is an emphasis and going up against a defense and a guy like Mario, it is going to be an emphasis to get the ball out. At the same time, I trust my offensive line. I think those guys are definitely going to be prepared for the challenge and I look forward to it.

“Super” Mario Williams recorded 4.5 sacks last week. This week will be a huge test of the offensive line, as well as Geno Smith’s ability to get the ball out of his hands. If these two elements of the game do not go well, it could be a long afternoon for Geno and company.
