Good morning Jet Press readers. Last night, the Jets, as well as all of the other NFL teams, brought their rosters down to the league-mandated 53 players. We know that, as early as today, this can change. However, here are some thoughts on the moves, and the roster as it stands right now. First, here is the 53-man roster, in case you missed it:

QB (4) — Graham Harrell, Mark Sanchez, Matt Simms, Geno Smith

RB (4) — Kahlil Bell, Tommy Bohanon, Chris Ivory, Bilal Powell

WR (5) — Clyde Gates, Stephen Hill, Santonio Holmes, Jeremy Kerley, Ryan Spadola

TE (3) — Jeff Cumberland, Konrad Reuland, Kellen Winslow

OL (9) — Oday Aboushi, Will Campbell, Willie Colon, Vladimir Ducasse, D’Brickashaw Ferguson, Austin Howard, Nick Mangold, Caleb Schlauderaff, Brian Winters

DL (5) — Leger Douzable, Kenrick Ellis, Damon Harrison, Sheldon Richardson, Muhammad Wilkerson

LB (10) — Antwan Barnes, Nick Bellore, Quinton Coples, Demario Davis, David Harris, Danny Lansanah, Josh Mauga, Garrett McIntyre, Calvin Pace, Ricky Sapp

DB (10) — Antonio Allen, Josh Bush, Antonio Cromartie, Jaiquawn Jarrett, Dawan Landry, Ellis Lankster, Dee Milliner, Isaiah Trufant, Darrin Walls, Kyle Wilson

ST (3) — Nick Folk, Robert Malone, Tanner Purdum

First comment, I am shocked that every one of Idzik’s draft picks made the team. Some deserved it, some didn’t. Will Campbell, is probably the biggest example. He didn’t do too much this preseason, why is he on the final 53? That could change, as they might make a waiver claim that moves him to the practice squad, but for not, it’s odd.

Secondly, the WR group is curious. Obomanu, Braylon, and Massaquoi are all gone? It leaves an important question. Is Santonio Holmes closer to a return than we know about? Or, do they have their sights on a veteran WR that is available as a free agent? It doesn’t seem likely that the Jets would stay that young without any veteran influences. Watch this position over the next couple of days, it should be interesting.

Why is Graham Harrell still on this football team? Did he handle the “victory” formation just so perfectly on Thursday that he earned a roster spot? Are we about to find out that Mark Sanchez is seriously hurt? The latter seems to make more sense. If you saw Mark on Thursday night, it was blatantly obvious that he couldn’t move his right arm without grabbing it in pain. We will see when the official injury report comes out.

Other than that, there weren’t a lot of surprises here. The team kept a lot of offensive linemen, 9, but this year, they are basically all valuable. That is such a nice change from the last couple of years. The offensive line position is deep, and that is exciting.  I am surprised about 10 LB’s, definitely didn’t see that coming, and will be interested to see if that changes over the next couple of days.

10 is a big group of defensive backs, but for the most part, they were all worthy of a roster spot. Many of us, myself included, don’t believe that Kyle Wilson is any longer, but with Dee Milliner banged up, they really had no way of letting Wilson go. Kyle is valuable on special teams as well, so that played a part in saving him too.

What do you guys think of the roster, as it stands right now?  Remember it will undergo some changes as waiver claims are made, so just looking for your thoughts to date….
