New York Jets' Agree to Terms with WR Mohamed Massaquoi

It looks like the Jets have added some potential depth at the wide receiver position, and the player is a veteran.

A source is reporting that the Jets have come to terms with WR Mohamed Massaquoi. It was relayed last night that Mohamed was coming in for a tryout today, which clearly went well, as the day has brought him a contract. No financials were revealed at the time of this post.

Massaquoi spent the first four years of his career with the Cleveland Browns. His first two seasons, 2009-2010 were his best, with 34 receptions, 624 yards and 3 TDs, and 36 catches, 483 yards and 2 TDs respectively.

This move brings about two interesting questions. The first is, where is Santonio Holmes in his development really? We have heard about his answers being all over the map, what’s the truth? Secondly, is Braylon Edwards guaranteed a roster spot? I have already speculated that he is the odd man out, maybe he is.

I think you’re right about Braylon on his way out. I don’t believe in conspiracies but I do think if the Jets had Mark slated as a starter for the season it would help Braylon with making the roster. If Braylon gets cut I think there’s a good chance they might be leaning to give Geno a chance.

I think so as well. It just seems like Bray is the odd man out at this point, although we did learn he hasn’t been practicing due to a leg injury. Still think he is out though.

This signing does bring up some questions. Its late in the preseason, and obviously the Jets haven’t liked what they have seen at WR. Though reports out of camp have indicated that they have a young group with potential. I think if nothing else, it ends Edwards career with the Jets. Holmes is and always has been “flaky”, his comments have been all over the place. The fact that he was seen working out and planting well on the foot, is a good sign however. If he’s going to be on the PUP for the opener, this signing would be a stop gap I guess. My thinking though is they signed Edwards as a veteran influence, were disappointed, and signed Mohamed as his replacement.

Can’t disagree with your interpretation of the signing Paul.
